Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced a family of ultra-miniature photocouplers for high-speed applications.

TheTLP105 and TLP108 couplers are 70 per cent smaller than previous devices offering similar performance, the company said.

The TLP105 and TLP108 couplers offer buffer (non-inverter) logic and inverter logic functionality respectively.

Maximum propagation delay time as low as 250ns gives typical switching speeds of 5MHz, while a six-pin MFSOP package results in dimensions of 4.4 x 3.6 x 2.5mm.

The photocouplers are suited to applications requiring high-speed data communications, including isolated bus drivers, line receivers and microprocessor system interfaces.

Both offer a minimum isolation voltage of 3750Vrms and can accommodate a wide power supply range of 4.5V to 20V.

An internal Faraday shield ensures a guaranteed common mode transient immunity of +/-10kV/us.

Each of the devices consists of a GaAlAs infrared LED optically coupled to a high-gain, high-speed photodetector.

Totem-pole outputs mean that the devices can both sink and source current.

Maximum input threshold current for both devices is rated at 1.6mA and performance is guaranteed at temperatures from -40C to 100C.
