Portwell's PCS-8230 is based on the Intel Atom Z510 series processor using the Intel System Controller Hub US15W chipset.

American Portwell Technology has released the PCS-8230 low-power, compact single-DIN in-vehicle embedded Car PC infotainment system.

Using the Intel Embedded Compact Extended (ECX) form factor single-board computer (SBC), Portwell's PCS-8230 is based on the Intel Atom Z510 series processor using the Intel System Controller Hub US15W chipset.

Its fanless design, low power output and compact size make it suitable for in-vehicle infotainment as well as POS, medical healthcare, kiosk, entry-level gaming and digital signage applications.

"Portwell's new PCS-8230 provides ultra low power consumption - a mere 6-24V wide DC power input - and low power output", according to Jack Lam, American Portwell Technology's Senior Product Marketing Manager.

"The entire self-contained system emits an extraordinarily low heat".

"The CPU generates just 2.5W".

"That's perfect for the confines and requirements of in-vehicle infotainment".

"In addition, when we designed the PCS-8230, we kept one eye on size and the other on noise and we produced a fanless unit that measures only 180 x 192.2 x 50mm" Lam said.

"We also made certain that it provided all of the features necessary for today's infotainment systems: DVB-T/FM tuner; Wi-Fi; two USB ports; three integrated SDIO sockets; support for dual-display (optional VGA or LVDS); standard multimedia audio and video functions; optional trusted platform module (TPM) and USB-Disk module (UDM); 5.1 channel audio; and open architecture for easy customisation".
