Panasonic opts for BlueCore solution

The latest GSM smartphone from Panasonic Mobile Communications is to be Bluetooth-enabled using BlueCore.
The latest GSM smartphone from Panasonic Mobile Communications is to be Bluetooth-enabled using BlueCore, CSR's solution which already features in 60% of all qualified Bluetooth end product and module designs.
The Panasonic X700 GSM smartphone, using CSR's latest BlueCore3 Bluetooth technology, was launched at 3GSM World Congress in February and is the company's flagship model for 2004.
The X700 is due to be available in Europe, Asia and the USA later this year.
The compact clamshell phone operates on the Symbian operating system (OS) for mobile devices.
Support for CSR's BlueCore is designed into the Symbian OS Bluetooth software stack.
This makes it much easier for designers to integrate BlueCore into any Symbian mobile device.
Inclusion of Bluetooth connectivity in the handset allows images, multimedia messages (MMS) and video clips to be sent wirelessly to a PDA or a PC.
As the X700 also supports the viewing and editing of Microsoft Word, Excel or Powerpoint documents, these can be easily uploaded to a computer via Bluetooth.
Connection to a hands-free kit for safer driving, or a Bluetooth headset for the convenience of the user, are additional benefits of a Bluetooth-enabled phone.
Panasonic's feature-rich triband smartphone also includes Java support, a VGA camera facility, high-quality TFT screen, and support for miniSD cards for storing images, documents and phone data.
Morgan Gillis, Executive Vice President of Sales for Panasonic commented: "Panasonic's expertise in the miniaturisation of consumer electronics has resulted in driving down the size and weight of the Symbian OS smartphone - one of the most technically advanced products in the market".
Gillis continued: "CSR's BlueCore3 Bluetooth technology complements the X700's advanced feature set by enabling wireless connectivity to other devices".
"Support for BlueCore in the Symbian OS also made it very easy for us to continue using the same reliable Bluetooth silicon we have been using for our popular X70 model".
Eric Janson, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, CSR, added: "In the X700 smartphone, Panasonic has put together one of the most technologically advanced GSM mobile handsets on the market".
"A VGA camera, high-quality screen and PDA-like functionality, all in a compact clamshell design".
Janson continued: "Panasonic has selected CSR's BlueCore3-ROM to provide Bluetooth wireless connectivity which will allow the user to make full use of some of the functions on the phone".
"BlueCore is reliable and robust solution for Bluetooth at a size and price particularly suited to mobile applications".
