Skyray XRF has released an updated version of its hand-held XRF analyser to the North American market.

The Pocket-III is a hand-held system that uses X-ray tube technology.

A 4kV micro X-ray tube and silicon pin detector provide a fast, accurate and portable system for a wide range of applications.

The updated version offers an expanded element range of sulphur (S) to uranium (U), and is designed for steel and alloy identification, hazardous substance (RoHS) detection, geological/mining applications and full precious metals analysis.

Additions include laser light alignment to increase the accuracy of sample spot location, and the ability to automatically adjust various filters for different applications.

Improvements include a longer battery life (increased by almost two hours) with an automatic shut-off feature; lighter body components, sourced so that the final 'X-ray gun' weighs in at less than 4lb while still offering the durability required in day-to-day use, and software that still uses a removable PDA for short-term data storage, with Bluetooth technology to transfer results for long-term storage and analysis.
