NDK has developed the first commercially available 4MHz thickness shear vibration mode (AT-cut) SMD crystal unit, in a small 8.0 x 4.5 x 1.8mm package.

NDK has developed the first commercially available 4MHz thickness shear vibration mode (AT-cut) SMD crystal unit, in a small 8.0 x 4.5 x 1.8mm package, the NX8045GB series.

This low frequency was previously only available in larger packages like the NX1225GB (11.8 x 5.5 x 2.5mm).

The NX8045GB offers a reduction in volume of nearly 60% (65mm3 compared with 162mm3).

The low frequency operation keeps the power consumption low (drive level 50uW) and can be applied with existing IC designs.

It is available in a frequency range of 4-40MHz with a frequency tolerance of +/-30ppm at an ambient temperature of +25C.

The NX8045GB is ideal for automotive applications with an operating temperature range of -40 to +125C, delivering superior environmental performance including high heat, vibration and impact resistance.

Maximum equivalent resistance is 280ohm and frequency stability is +/-180ppm (from -40 to +125C).

The NX8045GB meets the requirements for reflow profiling using lead-free solder, and is RoHS compliant.

"The automotive electronics industry is pursuing lighter, more compact, power saving devices".

"NDK's miniaturisation design techniques used in the NX8045GB enables us to deliver high volume production without compromising the superior characteristics delivered by thickness shear vibration mode crystal units", said Mike Walczak, President, NDK America.

Delivery for the NX8045GB series is 12 weeks ARO.

Cost for 10,000 pieces of the NX8045GB packaged tape and reel is approximately US $0.46 each.

Qualified engineering samples may be ordered at no cost.
