The NZ2520 series are billed as the smallest crystal clock oscillators (XO) in the world - their SMD package measures only 2.5 x 2.0mm.

The NZ2520 series are billed as the smallest crystal clock oscillators (XO) in the world - their SMD package measures only 2.5 x 2.0mm.

The devices are also claimed to be the thinnest XOs in the world with a thickness of only 0.9mm and are ultra-lightweight at just 0.02g.

The NZ2520 is available in a frequency range of 1.5-67.5MHz.

It operates on a supply voltage of +2.5 or +3.0V DC while consuming as little as 3.5mA.

It also has a standby function.

The NZ2520 series' output is C-MOS drive level and can fanout to up to 15 IC gates.

The operating temperature range is -20 to +70C, with frequency stability of +/-30ppm from -10 to +60øC.

The device is lead-free and meets the requirements of reflow profiling using lead-free solder.

The NZ2520 is ideal for small portable information devices such as laptop computers, PDAs, DVCs and DSCs.

High volume production of these XOs will be ready in July of 2004.

"The NZ2520 is not only the smallest crystal clock oscillator in the world, but it is available in a very low frequency starting only 1.5MHz.

This is quite an engineering feat for a crystal clock oscillator of such minute dimensions", said Mike Walczak, President, NDK America.

Cost for the NZ2520 series is about $1.40 each in 10,000-piece quantities.

Engineering samples of popular frequencies are available.
