New ICs help manufacturers of residential power meters to implement more reliable, lower-cost and higher-accuracy devices for measuring consumer power usage.

With the introduction of the CS5464 and CS5467 from Cirrus Logic, manufacturers of residential power meters can implement more reliable, lower-cost and higher-accuracy devices for measuring consumer power usage.

Targeting India and other fast-developing markets for residential power measurement applications, the CS5464 delivers superior power-measurement performance by using fourth-order delta-sigma 24bit analogue-to-digital convertors for measuring current, offering twice the dynamic range of competing ICs.

The CS5464 also features advanced programmable fault/tamper detection - an important feature in energy theft prevention within industrial and residential environments.

The CS5467 is designed for market-specific demands within Japan, offering two current channels and two voltage channels for simultaneous two-phase measurements.

This configuration is popular in network meters and commercial three-phase metering applications throughout the world.

"The CS5464 and CS5467 have been designed to provide both long-term reliability and high performance energy measurement for residential and industrial measurement applications", said John Paulos, Vice President and General Manager, Industrial Products Division, Cirrus Logic.

"Power measurement feature requirements often vary in different countries and regions, and Cirrus Logic targets this global market with a wide-ranging family of high-precision, field-proven power meter ICs that offer excellent performance, reliability and the right set of customised features".

For the electrical meter market where reliability and accuracy are key, Cirrus Logic's new solution provides the design flexibility to help makers of residential power meters reduce costs and get to market faster with a better-quality power meter product.

To achieve this, the CS5464 and CS5467's features include system-level calibration, temperature sensing, voltage sag, current fault detection and phase compensation.

Cirrus Logic's wide-ranging family of power meter ICs provides a balanced offering of feature rich, cost-effective solutions targeting the growing worldwide market shift towards fully electronic energy measurement.
