Cherry Electrical Products has launched the M-4200 Fingertip ID mouse, which allows users to log on to their PC or laptop machine using their fingerprint as identification.

The M-4200 Fingertip ID mouse incorporates biometrics technology and eliminates the need for difficult to recall user IDs and passwords, securing the system from unauthorised users.

The M-4200 Fingertip ID mouse incorporates a TCS2 Touchchip sensor developed by Upek.

Placed in the upper body of the device, the sensor reads each user's fingerprint and can match it with fingertip identification records stored on the mouse itself.

This provides a much greater level of security than matching to records stored on the PC, as the templates on the mouse cannot be accessed by hackers.

Using biometric identification has the additional advantage of saving time and frustration as users no longer have to phone their IT support department to request a new log-on or password, which often occurs if they are frequently changed.

The sensor also features Upek's active capacitance sensing technology, which delivers a higher signal-to-noise ratio than passive sensing and is protected with a coating which is almost five times thicker than that of other silicon sensors.

Featuring three buttons and a pressable scroll wheel, the wired M4200 Fingertip ID mouse uses 800dpi optical technology for precision control.

Available in a smart silver/black housing, the mouse is guaranteed for two years and requires Windows 2000, 2003, XP or Linux operating systems and a USB interface.

It is also approved for Microsoft WHQL Windows XP and by FCC, GS, CE, UL, and VCCI.
