Pantech, one of the largest handset manufacturers in the world mobile phone market, has chosen CSR's BlueCore silicon to Bluetooth-enable its latest high-function G800 mobile phone.

Bluetooth technology provided by CSR's tried and tested BlueCore will allow users to take full advantage of the feature-rich handset.

The G800 is the latest addition to the Pantech range of high-end handsets and the first GSM Bluetooth mobile phone developed within Korea.

CSR's BlueCore silicon enables the G800 to wirelessly connect to a PDA or PC, allowing the user to access the Internet through their mobile phone and download email and attached files.

In addition, the G800 can connect to Bluetooth enabled headsets and in-car kits to accommodate legislation governing the use of mobile handsets while driving.

Users are also able to wirelessly transfer photographs taken with the handset's 310,000 pixel camera to other Bluetooth enabled devices.

The additional functionality offered by CSR's Bluetooth silicon has allowed Pantech to develop luxury mobile handsets with high-end performance capability.

In addition, the Pantech phone benefits from CSR's BCHS, a shrink-wrapped software offering which complements BlueCore hardware and offers cost and ease-of-design advantages for large volume mobile phone, PDA and access point manufacturers.

BCHS incorporates the necessary Bluetooth profiles and demo applications to give manufacturers such as Pantech a much faster time to market.

Lee Sung-Gyu, President and CEO of Pantech Co.

commented: "Our customers value the short end-to-end design cycle that Pantech is able to offer".

"This has enabled Pantech to quickly respond to market demand for mobile handsets packed with features such as Bluetooth".

Lee continued: "The straightforward integration of CSR's BlueCore silicon with its BCHS software has allowed Pantech to add Bluetooth functionality easily and quickly, enabling us to quickly respond to the evolving technology and design demands of our customers".

John Hodgson, CEO, CSR, noted: "Consumers are demanding more from their mobile phones, using them in synergy with other devices to create truly mobile offices as well as high fashion accessories".

"Suppliers and manufacturers are increasingly recognising the added value of incorporating CSR's low powered Bluetooth technology to their handsets allowing companies like Pantech to offer more functionality for less cost".
