Advantech's partnership with Intel continues to strengthen, led by a stream of powerful Intel Pentium M and Intel Celeron M solutions aimed at the embedded market.

Intel Pentium M's new micro architecture built on 90nm process technology offers an optimal combination of high performance and low power that is ideal for applications such as service blades, transaction terminals, high performance multimedia kiosks and industrial controllers.

The superior performance per watt, robust I/O support, software compatibility with previous generation Intel architecture processors and Intel's dedicated long product life cycle support, make Intel Pentium M and Intel Celeron M the preferred choice of system integrators.

Advantech solutions range from ULV/fanless full and half-size SBCs and CompactPCI boards with fast instruction execution, to Advantech's newest system on module (SOM) solutions for the ultimate combination of multimedia and graphics/processing power and customised development.

Advantech has multiple solutions that offer customers the advantages of an Intel Pentium M solution that match their application needs.

For high-end graphics and multimedia intensive solutions, the SOM-5580 Series use the high performance Pentium M (formerly codenamed Dothan) and Intel 855GME chipset on a dedicated carrier board design.

Targeting medical and gaming applications where display performance and processing power is key, this system on module solution allows developers to use a dedicated graphics chip on the carrier board via AGP bus.

This feature gives developers more flexibility and upgrade capability for graphics and computing power, plus the ability to decrease overall project development time.

The SOM-5580 is the easiest and fastest way to apply Pentium M power using the Intel 855GME on-chip graphics engine or an ATI Radeon or Nvidia GeForce) or other graphics chip to an embedded solution.

For communications, the Pentium M delivers high reliability, high performance and low heat dissipation along with advanced power management features like Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology.

The new MIC-3369 CompactPCI server blade, optimised for the Pentium M and Intel E7501 chipset, delivers 400MHz bus speed with the Intel NetBurst micro architecture.

Its innovative wider datapath and memory refresh technology optimise DDR SDRAM performance.

It is an ideal platform for emerging applications such as switch-fabric blade servers, mission critical and computing intensive applications like (3G) wireless, voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) and converged data and voice communication applications.

For more cost effective embedded solutions without compromised performance, the Intel Celeron M ultra-low-voltage (ULV) processor has become the platform of choice for many application developers.

Based on 0.13um process technology, the processor is well proven in the mobile and value PC markets, featuring fanless operation up to certain CPU speeds.

The Celeron M supports advanced power management that includes a deep sleep state that minimises power consumption in applications during periods of inactivity.

This is perfect for many mobile and other embedded applications like information kiosks and POS systems that require an always ready, standby presence.

Advantech's 5.25in PCM-9581 SBC, full size PCA-6189 SBC, SOM-4481 and AIMB-750 industrial motherboard all use the Celeron M or Pentium M processor, providing Advantech customers more choice for their application needs.

Advantech has always stressed the importance of relationships with vendors like Intel and the movement of cutting edge technology to its customers.

Applying this technology in ways that help its customers is key.

Advantech believes the continued movement of modularised computing like its system on module solutions will continue to gain momentum in the embedded market.

Along these same lines, the company feels the interoperability of the PCI Express architecture will gain a wider acceptance in embedded computing in the near future.

The SOM-5580 Pentium M solution will be the cornerstone of many successful projects.

The flexibility and lower total cost of ownership of SOM solutions combined with increased development support (OS, BIOS, drivers) is a way Advantech continues to add value to its customers.

The company's DTOS (design to order service) is providing customised embedded technology and fast prototyping that more closely fits developers' application needs.
