The E20 combines an integral push switch with a long-life mechanical encoder in an SMT package specifically designed for automatic assembly using either reflow or wave soldering.

By providing a separate snap-in shaft, not only can the E20 be mounted by standard pick-and-place nozzles, and mated with standard conductive or nonconductive aluminium shafts, but Elma is able to offer custom shaft configurations for volume applications.

Gold contacts and advanced design contribute to a minimum encoder life of 100,000 rotations, together with a switch life of 100,000 operations, ten times the life of alternative products.

The E20 is designed as a convenient mouse replacement for on-screen menu selection and for compact user input applications, such as industrial control, avionics, audio/video and portable communications.

For maximum flexibility, options include 16 or 30 position indexing, and a range of detent and push switch forces from light to heavy, enabling designers to match a wide range of operator needs from laboratory equipment to outdoor operation with gloved hands.

Reliability is assured with a -40 to +85C temperature range, a UL94V0 body and an IP65 protection rating.

Packing is either as tape and reel, or waffle pack.

Fully dimensioned drawings and specifications are available for download from the Elma website.
