DEK has implemented a downsizing operation at its Weymouth manufacturing headquarters and overseas locations, involving 120 redundancies.
DEK has implemented a downsizing operation at its Weymouth manufacturing headquarters and overseas locations, involving 120 redundancies.
DEK's manufacturing operations area is to be reduced by 35% due to reduced machine build, with the rest of the organisation reduced by 10%.
The redundancies will take effect as of 1st August.
"We have done everything in our power to avoid this course of action, but the current economic scenario leaves us with little choice but to downsize the business to match predictions for the rest of 2001 and for 2002", comments Ian McEvoy, DEK's Managing Director.
"2000 was an exceptional year for DEK, with unprecedented levels of machine sales worldwide.
However, following the sudden collapse of the market we have been closely monitoring all geographical regions.
Industry forecasters are not now predicting an upturn until early 2002, and suggest that sales will not return to the high levels of last year.
It is with this in mind that we have come to this unfortunate decision".
The only area to escape the downsizing operation will be development engineering.
Industry-renowned for its advanced and progressive innovative technologies, DEK is not willing to risk its technological leadership and future success by compromising one of its core strengths and will continue to produce new, cutting edge technologies for preplacement process solutions.
