A new CPU system on module can handle the most demanding embedded applications requiring high performance CPU processing power, strong graphics support and superior I/O bandwidth.
Advantech's new SOM-5580 is a powerful SOM-ETXplus CPU module able to drive the most demanding embedded applications requiring high performance CPU processing power, strong graphics support and superior I/O bandwidth.
With support for Intel Pentium M, Dothan and Celeron M processors up to 1.6GHz and enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology, the SOM-5580 offers developers a high performance, easy to integrate, low power solution that fits a range of needs.
The Intel 855GME/ICH4 core chipset has a high performance 3D 4x AGP graphics engine, offering superior multimedia capability with ECC Double Data Rate (DDR), USB 2.0, SATA and Gigabit Ethernet LAN support providing a stable and reliable system architecture.
The SOM-ETXplus is the third and the newest form factor of the system on module series from Advantech.
Advantech has two x86-based SOM series: SOM-144 and SOM-ETX.
SOM-144 is the most compact form factor offering a PCI bus interface.
SOM-ETX provides both PCI and ISA bus extensions for carrier boards.
With enhanced functions such as AGP, PCI-X and PCI-Express, SOM-ETXplus meets the application needs for strong performance and flexible integration.
The SOM-5580 is the first product of SOM-ETXplus, offers flexibility not only from CPU choices, but also in how the system on module is used with the carrier board.
Customers simply design their carrier board to support their application, and plug in the SOM-5580 CPU module.
Customers are not limited to any "specific form factor" and are free from the restrictions of fixed form factor solutions that begin to all look the same.
Customers can also more easily offer different performance options by simply choosing a different system on module to match their needs.
This allows for different versions of the same carrier board and chassis combinations, giving customers more choices and developers more flexibility and speed developing multiple solutions better tailored to match customer needs.
It can be applied in various vertical markets such as gaming machines, industrial control and automation, as well as telecommunications.
