The SOM-A27xx system on module series is based on the Intel XScale PXA 27x processor and 2700G multimedia accelerator with higher performance and support for better graphics.

Working with Intel to develop the SOM reference design, the SOM-A27xx Series debuted at Intel Developer Forum in Taiwan last month.

Advantech's SOM-A27xx is a board-level computing engine offering flexible design capability and a faster time-to-market solution for customer solution board development in industrial mobile computers and wireless human web interface device applications.

Advantech SOM design-in kits are scheduled for release in Q4 2004.

Designed from the ground up for wireless clients and incorporating the latest advances in mobile technology from Intel, the PXA 27x processor family redefines what a wireless handheld can do by incorporating innovative new features while borrowing and enhancing others from the world of the PC.

The Intel PXA 27x processors with Intel Wireless MMX technology enable high-performance multimedia acceleration with an industry proven instruction set.

Another innovative feature is the Intel Quick Capture technology which provides one of the industry's most flexible and powerful camera interfaces for capturing digital images and video.

And while performance abounds in the Intel PXA 27x processor, power consumption has been optimised as well.

Advantech's SOM-A27xx system on module (SOM) integrates Intel's PXA27x processor, 2700G multimedia accelerator and Advantech's EVA-C210 companion chip.

The 2700G multimedia accelerator provides high-performance 2D, 3D, MPEG2, MPEG4 and Windows Media Video (WMV) acceleration as well as dual-display capabilities.

EVA-C210 is an ARM/XScale based companion chip with multi-I/O interfaces and ARM-PCI bridge, providing support for USB, MAC, PS/2, I2C, UART and PCI interfaces.

OS-ready ARM/XScale SOM solutions are ready-to-run, SBC-level computing engines that speed customer development time.

SOM solutions add value in the development cycle by lowering costs and the engineering effort required, getting cutting edge applications to market fast.
