Based on ARM/XScale technology, Advantech offers OS-ready, SBC-level system on module platforms for applications such as mobile platforms, telemetrics, medical equipment, POS and HMIs.

Based on ARM/XScale technology, Advantech offers OS-ready, SBC-level system on module (SOM) platforms for applications such as mobile platforms, telemetrics, medical equipment, POS and human machine interfaces.

With a unified local system bus interface and a well-defined SOM-200 I/O bus for XScale based platforms, the RISC SOM platforms (SOM-A series) are smart engines featuring easy logistics, flexible design-in, and faster time-to-market to cater to the application needs of customer solution board development.

Intel XScale technology is widely implemented in a variety of embedded, communication and network infrastructure market segments.

High performance, ultralow power, ARM V5TE compliance with robust tool chains make Intel XScale technology a compelling choice for applications ranging from smaller, portable multimedia devices to high performance I/O or network applications.

"Advantech XScale SOM solutions speed customer time-to-market solution delivery.

SOM solutions not only shorten platform development time and ease, but also help streamline development logistics, offer more flexible design capability and simplify after sales maintenance", said Joe Cheng, Director of Advantech RISC Embedded Computing Division.

"We also offer professional 'design-in support' to assist customers in development, a much faster approach than 'from scratch' SoC development and design to order service to develop customer solution boards".

SOM-A2558 Series SOM platforms integrate both an Intel PXA255 SoC and an Advantech EVA-C210 ARM/XScale-based companion chip with enhanced platform functionality by the integrated ARMPCI bridge.

Features include USB host, multiple series I/O, Ethernet, PS/2 peripherals and RTC.

SOM-A2552 Series modules integrate both an Intel PXA255 ultra-low-power CPU and a SMI multimedia graphics chip for devices used in mobile and battery operated applications.

The SM501 video engine with 8Mbyte embedded VRAM enhances platform performance for higher quality video scaling and colour space conversion, and offers an 8/16bit ZV port for video input and video capture, along with dual display capability.

The SOM-A255F Series integrates an Intel PXA255 ultra-low-power CPU, SMI multimedia graphics chip SM501 and Advantech's EVA-C210 PCI I/O expansion chip to offer customers ultralow power consumption, high graphics performance and rich I/O expansion using the system on module approach.

The SOM-A425F Series integrates an Intel IXP425 low power networking CPU, SMI multimedia graphics chip SM501 and IDE-Bridge IC ACARD ATP865.

This combination offers customers a low-power, high-performance graphics, rich I/O and strong storage expansion platform solution using the system on module approach.

RISC SOM-A series platforms are now available by request.

To assist our customers' design-in needs, a comprehensive design-in package provides developers with not only a completed reference kit and detailed design guide, but also a testing toolset and Windows CE board support package (BSP) for customer target platform image building.

Five support mechanisms are included in the design- in package.

The design-in kit provides developers a complete reference design-in suitable for application evaluation/development and customer solution board development.

LCD kits are available in different sizes and types for customers to fit into their target customer solution board and application.

The optional Windows CE-Builder software support platform allows customers to create, customise and integrate their own target image.

The Advantech Design-in Zone assists customers with their own customer solution board development by providing direct and professional technical support in an efficient way.

Finally, Advantech conducts a series of worldwide SOM design-in forums, seminars and conferences through various types of activities/formats, giving developers an opportunity/channel to receive and share the most up-to-date information.

OS-ready ARM/XScale SOM solutions are ready-to-run, SBC-level computing engines that speed customer development time.

SOM solutions add value in the development cycle by lowering costs and the engineering effort required, getting cutting edge applications to market fast.
