SBC upgrades PoS terminals

TJ Morris has updated its electronic point of sale terminals by installing PCM-9550 single board computers from Advantech.
TJ Morris, the company behind the successful Home Bargains retail chain that specialises in selling leading brands at low prices, has updated its electronic point of sale (EPOS) terminals by installing PCM-9550 single board computers from Advantech.
The PCM-9550 is an extremely compact module with a high degree of processing power to support the management of large amounts of data found in an automated retail and logistics environment.
In the TJ Morris application each PCM-9550 module is interfaced with a cash drawer, printer, pole displays and scanner.
Additionally all units within a store are linked to a local IBM AS/4000 Mocel that controls all data for that store.
The PCM-9550 offers a long and reliable life cycle due its robust design and fanless operation.
Operating temperature range is 0 to +60C.
The module has a high degree of connectivity and is able to support a wide range of peripheral devices; this versatility means that it can provide a 'drop-in' solution for numerous applications without the need for customisation.
Commenting on the adoption of Advantech's PCM-9550 in its stores, Tim Donovan, IT Director at TJ Morris said: "Advantech's product provides us with a reliable, versatile and powerful solution for our in-store requirements.
In a retail environment it is essential to keep downtime to a minimum and have enough processing power to ensure that stock and logistics operations can be optimised".
