TDK has developed the MEA2010PE series of multilayer chip EMI filter arrays, the world's first noise countermeasure products for use in mobile terminals that can receive terrestrial digital broadcasts. Production of the new filter arrays is scheduled to begin this month. Terrestrial digital television broadcasts for mobile terminals (one segment broadcasts) are scheduled to begin in Japan in April 2006.
Terrestrial digital broadcasts are also progressing in Europe and other regions.
In conjunction with these developments, development and use of television tuners designed specifically for cellphones and notebook PCs is increasing rapidly.
When such tuners are used in cellphones, in addition to the communications band (800MHz-2GHz), a broadcast band (470-770MHz) is also used, and as a result, noise countermeasures are crucial in device design and miniaturisation.

TDK's new filter arrays respond to these market developments, providing cutting-edge noise countermeasures with a focus on terrestrial digital broadcasts and a compact package just 2.0 x 1.0 x 0.7mm in size.
Because video data is the core component of terrestrial digital broadcasts, it is essential to reduce noise in the 470-770MHz band while minimising any deterioration of the circuit waveform quality.
The new array filters use optimal materials and pattern designs in the pursuit of exceptional noise countermeasures for terrestrial digital broadcasts.
The four product lineup can be used in terrestrial digital broadcast tuners and as an effective noise countermeasure in a variety of applications that use the 470MHz to 2GHz band.
