The MB91F467BA is specifically designed for integrating several in-vehicle Control Area Networks or for controlling CAN, LIN and FlexRay mixed network gateways

Fujitsu Microelectronics has added to its popular MB91460 series of high-performance 32bit microcontrollers for automotive applications. The MB91F467BA is specifically designed for integrating several in-vehicle Control Area Networks (CAN) or for controlling CAN, LIN and FlexRay mixed network gateways.

The MB91F467BA incorporates a CAN controller with an industry-leading six channels.

Each channel consists of 32 message buffers, seven channels of LIN-capable UART, two channels of I2C communication suitable for the interconnection and gateway functionality and to allow the MCU to easily control combinations of different in-vehicle networks.

The MB91F467BA operates at 80MHz using a single 3.0-5.5V power supply, simplifying power supply circuitry while providing flexibility on hardware design.

The new MCU is the latest in the popular MB91460 lineup, providing the CAN and FlexRay capabilities that have become widely used for vehicle body and chassis applications.

The new microcontroller specifically addresses the increasing speed and connectivity requirements that characterise vehicle applications, with the ability to control and integrate entire in-vehicle networks from within the head electronic control unit (ECU) that manages individual electronic components throughout the vehicle.

The MB91F467BA extends the Fujitsu MB91460 series of microcontrollers, which now includes eight product members.

Based on the Fujitsu FR architecture, a 32bit RISC CPU core, the series offers devices for vehicle dashboard, body control, infotainment and other CAN-based applications as well as FlexRay applications.

The FR60 CPU core and peripheral functions are common through the entire series, along with a common development chip, all of which reduces software development time and costs, and allows reuse of a customer's software and hardware design assets.

The MB91F467BA incorporates 1Mbyte Flash with 8Kbyte cache and 40Kbyte data RAM, and five channels of DMA.

It has an 8x16bit free-run timer; an 8x16bit reload timer; and 16 channels of an 8/16bit PPG.

For signal capturing, the chip provides a 32-channel 10bit ADC, an 8bit ICU, and 8bit OCU channels.

It supports real-time clock, watchdog timer with separate clock source, and incorporates external SDRAM interface to meet high memory bandwidth applications.

'With microcontrollers for applications ranging from automobile body control to automotive infotainment systems like car navigation and car audio, Fujitsu is capable of providing our customers with an optimal solution', says Keith Horn, Chief Operating Officer, Fujitsu Microelectronics America.

'With the ability to integrate CAN networks or CAN with FlexRay-based networks, the MB91F467BA delivers a robust, efficient capability that can be used across the full range of advanced automotive applications'.

The MB91F467BA is available now in 144-pin LQFPs, with prices starting at US $14.01 each for volume quantities.
