The CPCI-920/922 is the next generation CPCI/PICMG 2.16 network processor blade from Force Computers for Internet Protocol (IP) packet-processing applications in telecomms and datacomms

The CPCI-920/922 offers a single or dual Intel IXP2400 network processor design for scalable performance and cost, and NPF-compliant coprocessor and media mezzanine interfaces. It maximises available IP processing performance for 2-4Gbit/s datarate packet processing segments. The CPCI-920/922 is easily packaged within PICMG 2.16 CompactPCI packet-switching backplane (cPSB) systems such as Force's GigE-capable Centellis CO 21Kx or Modusys 4745P.

Complete and unique IP packet-processing solutions such as network appliances and scalable telecomms IP converging infrastructure platforms can quickly be deployed, compared with using ASICs in proprietary form factors.

As an extension of Force's IXP network processor product family, the CPCI-920/922 provides OEMs with application-specific flexibility and configurability from a sophisticated modular design.

It provides performance and cost scaling in a single industry standard building block.

"Equipment manufacturers continue to look for ways to decrease time-to-market without sacrificing performance or flexibility", said Frank Schapfel, Product Line Manager, Intel Network Processor Division.

"Force's PIGMG 2.16 open standards-based blades utilising Intel IXP2400 network processors can help them do that".

Force, a Premier member of the Intel Communications Alliance, has selected Intel and Teja Technologies to meet customer requirements for complete hardware/software solutions for these blades.

Optimised for the CPCI-920/922 as part of its Intel IXP network processor software platform, Teja NP incorporates an extensible application framework and forwarding-plane functionality, as well as the system resource management software and development tools needed to develop CPCI-920/922 applications.

"OEMs are increasingly using off-the shelf-hardware and software modules in their systems designs to lower development costs and speed time to market", stated David Stepner, Teja's President and CEO.

"Our Teja NP software platform pre-integrated with Force's CPCI-920/922 enables customers to develop reliable, high-performance products with significant reduction in engineering risk".

By implementing single or dual Intel IXP2400 600MHz network processors with an LA-1 coprocessor or external SRAM interface and SPI-3 media fabric interface site in a 6U cPCI form factor, the CPCI-920/922 offers a cost-effective solution for parallel or pipelined IP packet processing at several protocol levels.

It can support L2-L4 packet forwarding, L2-L7 classification, and process and sustain hundreds of thousands of simultaneous sessions at line rate.

Additionally, it provides leading-edge features such as: quad GigE SPI-3 media switch fabric default interface; up to 1Gbyte DDR SDRAM with ECC per IXP2400; up to 64Mbyte QDR SRAM with parity per IXP2400; up to 8Mbyte of boot Flash and 32Mbyte of Flash memory; Force's Sentinel64 PCI-to-PCI bridge - for universal-slot capability; Intelligent Platform Management Interface support (PICMG 2.9); one 64bit ProcessorPMC slot for expansion of I/O or control plane processor functionality via PMC modules (eg Force's PowerPMC family of PrPMCs); support for Wind River VxWorks and MontaVista Linux operating systems;• Teja NP software platform for the Intel IXP2XXX network processor family; and Intel Internet Exchange Architecture software development kit 3.5.

The CPCI-920/922 easily integrates into modular system-level platforms from Force Computers, which can quickly enable application-ready platform solutions.

Integrated solutions with the CPCI-920/922 offer high-density configurations, platform and rack convergence, adaptability for expanding into additional services, and line rate IP performance for edge packet processing applications.

Fully configured, a CPCI-920/922-powered Centellis CO 21Kx designed for NEBS Level 3HA telecomms platform is ideal for high-density packet processing telecomms applications that demand flexible telecomms access/edge interfacing and wireline GigE performance.

With the ability to deploy various media interface mezzanine modules, advanced telecomms internetworking packet processing solutions can be provided for wireless or multiservice edge telecomms infrastructure.

A CPCI-920/922-powered Modusys 4745P datacomms platform is ideal for high-density GigE packet processing network appliance applications such as security IDS/IPS, network search engine, and storage gateways all within a low-profile platform.

With a cost and performance scalable GigE architecture and available software, a unique set of network appliances can easily be constructed providing solutions the next generation IP network is requiring today.

CPCI-920s will be available in August through Force's Early Access Unit (EAU) programme, with volume shipments scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2004.
