PowerPC finds slot on Processor PMC
The PowerPMC-275 is billed as the embedded computing industry's first PowerPC 750GX microprocessor-based processor PCI mezzanine card (PrPMC) module
Using a PowerPC 750GX processor from IBM, the module offers one or two high-performance 1.0GHz processors and a robust 1Mbyte of four-way-set associative L2 internal cache. Functioning at the processor's core frequency while providing a very low power envelope, the PowerPMC-275 is suitable for applications that have a footprint optimised for a large L2 cache.

Italtel to apply central office platform
Italtel will base its next-generation iMSS media servers, media gateway servers and signalling servers on Force's new Centellis CO 31KX AdvancedTCA modular communications platform
Also, those applications can now achieve significant performance improvements and more deterministic behaviour with the PowerPMC-275 than is offered on other PrPMCs implementing PowerPC technology.
By upgrading to the PowerPC 750GX processor and doubling the amount of on-chip, integrated L2 cache, the PowerPMC-275 can address a broader range of highly demanding telecommunications, networking, storage and industrial control applications.
With a large L2 cache, it is well suited to semiconductor testing, medical imaging, industrial printing, next-generation wireless base stations, high-end router control-plane processors and network-attached or iSCSI storage controllers.
Capable of operating in either monarch or nonmonarch mode, the PowerPMC-275 implements the PowerPC 750GX processor(s) with the highly-integrated Marvell Discovery II MV64360 system controller onto an open-system PrPMC form-factor.
Multiple PowerPMC-275 configurations can be created, depending on performance, memory, networking, flash and multiprocessing requirements.

In addition to up to 1GByte DDR-SDRAM and dual/independent GigE interfaces, the PowerPMC-275 includes: 1MByte boot Flash memory; 64Mbyte user Flash memory; 64bit/66MHz PCI control plane; dual serial interfaces; multiple I2C EEPROM for board information and module configuration; integrated 2Mbit SRAM useful in optimising networking performance; MontaVista Linux operating system support; and a single image VxWorks BSP with loosely coupled multiprocessing support.
Also, this compact footprint processor module provides a scalable, cost-effective and low-power control- or data-plane processing solution based on widely-adopted PowerPC and PrPMC technologies for deployment on proprietary CompactPCI, PICMG 2.16 or AdvancedTCA form-factor-based carrier boards.
The module has capacity for a third GigE interface that can be implemented on a customised variant from Force's Tailor Made Solutions programme.
Cost-optimised OEM options are also possible using other members of the Marvell Discovery II family of system controllers.
PowerPMC-275 PrPMCs are currently available through Force's Early Access Unit (EAU) programme, with general availability scheduled for March.
Cost-optimised lower power-dissipation 750FX and symmetric-multiprocessing G4 members of the product family - PowerPMC-270 and PowerPMC-280 - are also available.
