Mobile phone tester made for workshop use
The new Yokogawa VC200 W-CDMA (3G) mobile phone tester is the world?s first "go/no-go" tester for UMTS.
The new Yokogawa VC200 W-CDMA (3G) mobile phone tester has been specifically developed for use in mobile phone service and repair centres, and is the world's first "go/no-go" tester for UMTS.
Operation is simple, with an "autotest" mode that any service technician or unskilled operator can use.
With a large "one touch" start button, the VC200 automatically tests the essential functions and performance of the mobile phone in less than one minute, and then displays "pass" or "fail".
"Mobile phone servicing and repair are big business, but until now their operations have been constrained by the fact that they have used expensive and time-consuming test instruments that were originally designed for research and development", comments Clive Davis, Yokogawa"s European Marketing Manager for communications products: "Now, with the VC200, they have an instrument with the highest performance and optimum ease of use for only one-fifth of the cost".
Yokogawa has worked closely with mobile phone manufacturers to ensure that the VC200 met their requirements on features, specifications and price.
As a result, it is expected that major vendors will recommend it as a preferred tool to their accredited service partners and repair centres.
The VC200 is the only tester that satisfies the test requirements of 3GPP, the standards body for UMTS.
The VC200 is a compact benchtop unit with a large built-in LCD.
Transmission frequency range is 2100 to 2170MHz and receiver frequency range is 1920 to 1980MHz, both adjustable in 200kHz steps.
RF output level is -110 to -10dBm (0.1dB steps) and output accuracy is +/-1.5dB from +5 to +35C.
Maximum input level is +35dBm, and sensitivity is better than -70dBm.
In addition to its performance and ease of use, the VC200 is the only dedicated mobile phone tester that allows the firmware to be upgraded via the Internet or USB memory.
Simply changing the internal profile allows the VC200 to test every commercially available UMTS phone, and all new phones and protocols can be supported as they are introduced.
In addition to the automatic test mode, the VC200 offers a manual test mode in which individual test items can be selected and tested under different output and input conditions.
The instrument also has a dedicated Tx/Rx tester mode which allows it to be used as a physical layer generator and analyser.
