Interface convertor aids DVB test applications
A new serial/parallel interface convertor assists with test equipment conversion requirements in the development of DVB systems.
Yokogawa Martron has introduced a new serial/parallel interface convertor, the Model 70656, to assist with test equipment conversion requirements in the development of DVB systems.
Broadcasting systems are increasingly using serial-based interfaces for the transmission of MPEG streams, leading to the need for parallel/serial interface conversion units such as the 70656.
The 70656 carries out SPI/ASI conversion in either direction, and is available in portable or rack-mount form.
In addition to serial/parallel conversion, it enables the datarate to be changed by inserting null packets into the transport stream.
The packet length can be changed between 188, 204 or 208byte.
The interface convertor will monitor the incoming transport stream for problems such as sync byte error, PAT (program allocation table) error, and the continuity counter error of the PAT.
If an error is detected, a visual indication and contact output is generated.
The signal specification complies with ISO/IEC-13818, and the datarate is from 10Kbit/s to 80Mbit/s.
The parallel interface complies with the DVB-SPI standard, providing one input and one output terminal with a 25-pin D-sub connector.
For serial connection, one input and three output terminals are provided, and are compliant with DVB-ASI (BS-EN50083-9).
Serial connectors are BNC (75ohm), and signal level is 800mV peak-to-peak.
The portable version weighs 1kg.
