At Embedded World 2003 Toshiba will be hosting a forum targeted at visitors looking to dramatically reduce the silicon and development time overheads associated with SoC multimedia applications.
Microcontroller meets needs of modern appliances
Toshiba Electronics Europe has launched a flash microcontroller specifically designed to meet the needs of modern home appliance applications including washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers.
First 7.7-inch low-temp polysilicon LCD for eBooks
Toshiba today announced commercialisation of a 7.7-in low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD designed for mid-size electronic book devices incorporating Microsoft ClearType display technology
Toshiba's microcontroller unit (MCU) portfolio has recently been extended with 8, 16 and 32bit families that will be on show.
Focus products include an 8bit family based on a new core with high speed processing and up to 128Kbyte of embedded Flash - a starter kit will also be shown.
For applications requiring a low cost, compact solution with colour display support, such as in home appliances, building control and industrial controls, an 80MHz 32bit MCU with an embedded LCD controller simplifies development while reducing component count and halving power consumption.
An associated software package includes an array of tools including GUI, speech synthesis and MP3/JPEG decoders.
A wide range of peripherals is supported.
Also on show will be Toshiba's embedded Flash MCU line including starter kits and software development tool-chain and software library.
Of particular interest will be Toshiba's first 16bit SuperFlashTM based MCU with onboard LCD driver and a new 32bit MCU with 512Kbyte of Flash and an embedded USB 2.0 host controller.
A complete reference model for connectivity to SD cards and USB memory sticks and music players is also available.
To steer engineers through Toshiba's broad range of motor control ASSPs, a new CD-ROM product selection guide will be available at the show.
This will cover everything from a single bridge driver for a brushed motor design, or sensorless solution for a brushless DC motor, to a microstepping control system for a stepper motor.
Focus products will include: a single chip inverter IC that simplifies BLDC development by combining a three-phase IGBT and control unit in a single package; and a motor driver ASSP with integrated LIN controller and driver designed for automotive applications such as headlamp and HVAC flap control.
