Renesas Technology Europe has launched the M16C/6S flash microcontroller with integrated power line modem from Yitran Communications

Renesas Technology Europe has announced the M16C/6S flash microcontroller with integrated power line modem from Yitran Communications . The device provides a single-chip power line communication (PLC) solution that reduces time-to-market and offers very reliable communication, as the modem has been specifically designed to cope with power line phenomena.

These features make it suitable for applications that require a larger protocol stack and additional application software, such as Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) or building automation applications.

A demonstration of AMR will be shown at Electronica and also at the Net@Home conference from 1-2 December in Nice, France.

The M16C/6S is suitable for use in both highly integrated and modular system architectures.

It is based on the high performance M16C series CPU core and has 3.0 to 3.6 V operation at 15.36 MHz.

The device offers excellent EMC performance and has shown good in-phase and cross-phase reliability in tests, thus it provides very reliable communication.

It is configurable to support worldwide regulations and frequency band compliance (ARIB, FCC, CENELEC Bands A and B).

The microcontroller offers 96K on-chip flash memory and 24K SRAM.

The peripheral set includes three UARTS, five 16-bit timers, a watchdog timer, three external interrupts and 21 programmable I/O ports.

The M16C/6S uses a 64-pin plastic mould LQFP package.

Samples of the device are currently being shown to OEM customers.
