The PowerDsine 3001 PoE Midspan is a one-port power hub which is fully compliant with the IEEE802.3af PoE standard.
The newest member of the PowerDsine 3000 Midspan family is designed for remote powering of wireless LAN access points (WLAN APs) and other low-port density deployments.
The PowerDsine 3001 PoE Midspan eliminates the need for an external power supply and provides compact, affordable and safe powering of 802.3af-compliant powered terminals as well as prestandard powered terminals.
The 3001 Midspan offers an interlocking feature that allows users to scale WLAN deployments by linking together multiple one-port Midspans to support additional devices.
With the interlocking feature, users no longer have to deal with existing single-port power injector solutions, which create a huge wiring mess as new devices are added to the network.
"Until now, there hasn't been a compact, affordable, safe and reliable way to provide inline power for low-port density deployments of wireless LAN access points and network cameras", said Igal Rotem, CEO of PowerDsine.
"With the emergence of the 3001 midspan, we offer a highly scalable solution which is ideal for growing businesses that want to cost effectively deploy wireless LAN access points, network cameras for security reasons, and a myriad of other Ethernet-connected devices".
The PowerDsine 3001 PoE Midspan will be available in January 2005 and carries a list price of $59 (GBP 31).
