Lattice Semiconductor has released the LCD-Pro, an FPGA-based LCD video-imaging and control-solutions platform.

Developed by Exor, the LCD-Pro evaluation platform is based on the LatticeECP2 and LatticeXP2 FPGA devices, and the Ultilogic family of graphics Intellectual Property (IP) Cores from Exor.

The LCD-Pro platform addresses a range of active matrix TFT displays from 2-23in and enables evaluation of LCD video and touch-screen controller IP for manufacturers developing LCD video-display and HMI applications in automotive, consumer, white-goods, building-automation and industrial-control markets.

Designed to provide comprehensive graphic processing, the LCD-Pro platform incorporates a 2D graphics accelerator and can handle picture scaling and the cropping of real-time video.

An IC interface facilitates plug-and-play LCD connectivity while a backlight inverter provides ON/OFF and dimming control.

LCD-Pro can accommodate LatticeECP2 SRAM FPGAs and LatticeXP2 non-volatile FPGAs.

The LatticeECP2 FPGA family has been optimised to deliver high performance features in an economical FPGA fabric, and includes devices ranging from 12 to 50K Look-Up Tables (LUTs) in package sizes up to 484BGA.

The devices include LUT-based logic, distributed and embedded memory, Phase Locked Loops (PLLs), Delay Locked Loops (DLLs), pre-engineered source synchronous I/O support, enhanced sysDSP blocks and advanced configuration support.

The LatticeXP2 family combines a LUT-based FPGA fabric with Flash non-volatile cells in Lattice's Flexiflash architecture.

The Flexiflash approach provides benefits such as instant-on operation, a small footprint, on-chip storage with Flashbako embedded block memories, Serial TAG memory and high design security.

LatticeXP2 devices also support live updates with Transfro technology, 128-bit AES design encryption and dual-boot technologies.

The family includes five devices ranging from 5-40K LUTs in a variety of packages.

The LCD-Pro evaluation platform offers four-wire analogue resistive touch-screen inputs and the overall system capabilities can be expanded through the addition of SRAM and Flash memory.

A high-speed USB 2.0 interface operating at 480Mbps ensures the rapid transfer of graphics images as well as speeding system programming.

The kit comes with an included 7in active matrix TFT display with touch-screen capability, video camera, USB cable, power supply and CD-ROM.

Each evaluation platform features 64Mb of Ddram video memory and a 16bpp LCD video controller that can be configured for resolutions from QVGA to high definition in 4:3 and 16:9 formats, as well as a 16:10 format for the gaming industry.

LCD-Pro supports composite video and analogue VGA input and will accept real-time video input streams.
