Hamamatsu Photonics has introduced the S11154-01CT, a photo IC that is ideal for a range of light level measurement applications and as an energy-saving sensor for large televisions and displays.

The spectral response characteristic of the S11154-01CT is said to closely resemble that of the human eye.

The sensor employs two active elements formed on the same chip, whose outputs are subtracted from each other by the current amplifier circuit.

This enables the sensor's response to be narrowed to the visible range, while also reducing colour temperature errors.

The S11154-01CT features a lower output-current variation than typical phototransistors, while also exhibiting a low output deviation when different colour temperature sources are used.

Hamamatsu Photonics said the photo IC has good linearity characteristics and is suitable for lead-free reflow soldering.
