Tiny MCU has powerful instruction set

The latest member of Atmel's 8bit AVR RISC microcontroller is the ATtiny11/12 range, combining an 8bit MCU with 1Kbyte of Flash memory in a very compact 8-pin package.

The latest member of Atmel's 8bit AVR RISC microcontroller is the ATtiny11/12 range, combining an 8bit MCU with 1Kbyte of Flash memory in a very compact 8-pin package. Thanks to executing powerful instruction sets in a single clock cycle, the range delivers high-performance and low-power consumption, providing the designer with a cost competitive solution for a host of embedded control applications. The ATtiny11/12 range with speeds up to 8MHz, executes throughputs approaching 1MIPS/MHz.

Its AVR core combines a rich instruction set with 32 general-purpose working registers, all directly connected to the arithmetic logic unit (ALU), enabling two independent registers to be accessed in one single clock cycle.

This unique architecture is more code efficient, while achieving throughputs up to ten times faster than conventional CISC microcontrollers.

The ATtiny11/12 also features: up to five general-purpose I/O lines, one input line, an 8bit timer/counter, internal and external interrupts, programmable watchdog timer with internal oscillator and two software-selectable power saving modes.

The microcontrollers are available in 8-pin PDIP and SOIC packages.

Specific to the ATtiny12 range, is an additional 64byte of in-system programmable EEPROM data memory.

The device's idle mode stops the CPU, while allowing the timer/counters and interrupt systems to continue operating.

The power-down mode saves the register contents and freezes the oscillator, disabling all other chip functions until the next interrupt or hardware reset.

While still operating at the lowest power consumption in power-down mode, typically 1mA, the wake-up or interrupt pin allows the device to respond rapidly to external commands.

Operating voltage range is from 1.8 to 5.5V.

To support the ATtiny11/12 range GD Technik also has available a comprehensive suite system development tools and programs including macro assemblers, debugger/simulators, in-circuit emulators and evaluation kits.
