Dy 4 Systems has added the SVME/DMV-182 to its line of high-performance PowerPC single board computers

Retaining backwards compatibility with earlier generations of Dy 4 SBCs, the 182 breaks new ground by providing greater I/O flexibility, more connectivity and higher performance in a single VME slot than ever before. Using dual 700MHz Motorola 7455 processors with Altivec technology and on-chip L2 cache, the 182 offers many more 'firsts' in a ruggedised single board computer.

These include 1Gbyte of DDR SDRAM with ECC for sustained high main memory bandwidth; two 64bit PMC sites on independent PCIbuses, one supporting 66MHz and the other offering 133MHz PCI-X; dual Ethernet ports, one of them being 1Gbit/s capable.

The 182 extends the limits of backplane I/O connectivity by routing many external signals through a customisable interface personality module (IPM).

This concept allows backwards pin compatibility with earlier generations of PowerPC SBCs or the creation of a new set of I/O using the new, advanced options available on the 182.

Other highlights of the 182 include 2Mbyte of L3 cache per processor, six serial ports, two USB 2.0 ports, 14bit of discrete TTL I/O, differential discrete I/O, 8 or 16bit SCSI and four onboard temperature sensors.

The SVME/DMV-182 uses Dy 4's unique "TherMax" thermal management system.

TherMax provides optimal support of conduction cooling by dissipating heat away from its two PMC sites to the card edges with greater efficiency.

This allows two high-functionality PMCs to be fitted and operated a full 10C cooler than equivalent designs.

PMC sites have controlled-impedance I/O routing for Fibre Channel, digital video and other high-speed interfaces.

Extensive real-time operating support is provided by either Wind River Systems' VxWorks/Tornado (Tornado 2.x and 3.x), including a comprehensive driver suite for all the 182's additional functionality, or by Green Hills Software's Integrity.

The 182 incorporates Dy 4's full-featured Foundation Firmware, which now includes Ethernet support.

In addition, Dy 4 offers its IXLibs-AV Altivec-optimised DSP maths library for digital signal processing applications.

As a member of Dy 4's continuously evolving stream of PowerPC SBCs, including the popular SVME/DMV-179 and SVME/DMV-181, the SVME/DMV-182 supports the life-cycle model of successive technology insertions throughout a platform's lifetime.

The 182 will be available in production volumes in June 2003.
