DDC and Ampol in avionics comms test alliance
Data Device Corporation (DDC) has announced a strategic alliance between itself and Israeli avionics software developer Ampol Technologies.
Data Device Corporation (DDC) has announced a strategic alliance between itself and Israeli avionics software developer Ampol Technologies.
The two companies will combine efforts to transform DDC's existing line of MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC-429 databus interface cards into enhanced, COTS (commercial off the shelf) turnkey solutions for communications and avionics systems - beginning with the integration of DDC cards and Ampol's field-proven dataMARS and dataSIMS software suite.
DDC has its European Headquarters in Newbury, UK, a manufacturing plant in Cork, Ireland, and sales offices in Germany and France.
MIL-STD-1553 is the standard military aircraft two-wire databus used throughout the Western world, while ARINC-429 is the serial databus used on most civil aircraft.
"DDC has built a reputation as the leading supplier of 1553 components.
The alliance with Ampol will help us execute our strategy of becoming more vertically integrated in the 1553 marketplace", according to Clifford Lane, President of DDC.
"We recognized that in order to achieve these goals, we must take our existing monitoring and simulation software to the next level".
DDC had the option of designing the software in-house, or looking for an outside solution.
"There's a natural synergy between our interface cards and the high performance software that Ampol's engineering team could provide", said Mike Hegarty, Data Bus Technologies Product Marketing Manager at DDC.
"Our exclusive agreement with DDC will allow us to introduce our technology to new customers and markets worldwide.
They have an extensive sales and distribution network and their presence in the MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC-429 market extends far beyond bus interface cards", said Yoram Amitai, President of Ampol.
"A long-term alliance between our companies will ensure the commitment of both to additional and significant investments in the development of robust, advanced monitoring and simulation tools".
DDC's enhanced line of cards will provide the same, high level of real-time performance while providing software tools that monitor and simulate the most complex systems without additional programming.
Several dataMARS-enhanced DDC MIL-STD-1553 interface cards are already available.
The cards provide monitoring through real-time displays and triggers, and extensive post-analysis through recorded data replay, reports, and searches.
Similarly enhanced simulation cards will be available later this year.
