Budget intro to high-pin-count MCUs
Microchip's 64- and 80-pin TQFP PIC18F Flash microcontroller family now includes a low-cost 32Kbyte memory option
Ideally suited for applications requiring a large memory, these microcontrollers offer added I/O, timers, a feature-rich peripheral set and the flexibility of field self-programmability. In addition, using Microchip's PEEC Flash process technology, the new PIC18F6520 and PIC18F8520 microcontrollers provide best-in-class erase/write endurance, retention, and disturb reliability for both program memory and on-chip data EEPROM.

The new microcontrollers are code-compatible with Microchip's PIC18F452, offering a higher-pin-count migration part, and also with the PIC18F8720 Flash devices, offering a pin-compatible, lower-cost migration part.
In addition, they offer users of Microchip's one-time-programmable PIC17C7XX devices the opportunity to migrate to a microcontroller that features the same peripheral and connectivity options but offers the flexibility of reprogrammable Flash memory.
The PIC18F6520 and PIC18F8520 have an operating voltage range of 2.0-5.5V and feature 32Kbyte of Flash memory, 2Kbyte of RAM and 1024byte of high endurance EEPROM data memory.
Peripherals include an analogue/digital convertor with up to 16 channels at 10bit resolution, five capture/compare/PWM modules, up to 10MIPS performance at 10MHz, two 8bit timers, three 16bit timers and one watchdog timer, dual analogue comparators and a parallel slave port.
Serial I/O features include SPI, I2C and two addressable USART modules supporting RS485 and RS232.
