The latest intelligent, high-voltage PWM motor driver IC from Toshiba is the industry's first system-on-chip inverter solution for driving DC brushless motors

Toshiba's new TPD4102K single chip inverter is a fully integrated three-phase bridge IC that provides all of the high voltage, logic, protection and diagnosis circuitry needed to drive and fully control a DC brushless motor. This includes monolithic integrated IGBTs that offer a 1A output stage for connection to 240V AC mains.

As all that the designer needs to provide are logic inputs from a host microcontroller, the TPD4102K will significantly reduce motor drive development time while saving board space and minimising component count.

The TPD4102K integrates a PWM circuit, three-phase decode logic, high-side and low-side drivers, IGBT outputs and fast recovery diodes (FRDs).

In addition, the IC offers built-in protection against overcurrent, over-temperature and undervoltage conditions.

A bootstrap system with an integral bootstrap diode is used to provide the high-side drive and eliminate the need for external power supply hardware.

Rated for a maximum voltage of 500V and output currents of 1A (DC) and 2A (pulse), the TPD4102K is ideally suited to home appliances, industrial control systems, and other motor drive applications where space is limited and component count needs to be reduced.
