Brooktrout Technology has chosen TI's DSP-based product for its TR2020 voice over packet (VoP) platform

TI's DSP technology will enable Brooktrout to deliver a more powerful, higher density and feature rich VoP platform with up to T3 capacity for maximum benefit to VoP operators. Brooktrout's TR2020 is powered by TI's TMS320C5441 voice-optimised DSPs which provide the high densities and low power per channel to meet necessary service provider requirements for VoP equipment.

The TR2020 performs core VoP gateway functions including voice compression, PSTN signaling, IP packetisation, and voice quality monitoring, as well as fax and data relay.

TI's C5441 DSPs provide support for the maximum channels in the smallest area, allowing the TR2020 to be offered in the CompactPCI form factor.

'We chose TI's DSP technology since it offers the highest channel density available to us today while leveraging our value-added software investment in TI's DSP architecture', said Steve Ganem, Vice President of Engineering for Brooktrout Technology.

'This allows us to offer our OEM customers a revolutionary density increase on the TR2020 coupled with the headroom needed to continue to enhance our VoP feature set.

In addition, TI has been a terrific design partner throughout the entire development cycle'.

The programmability of TI's DSP silicon allows Brooktrout to provide an open platform with application programming interfaces for developers to use a functional suite of components.

This suite includes voice transcoding and media stream control, and media packetisation, WAN access and call control, operations, administration and maintenance (OA and M) and interactive voice retrieval and call progress.

'Brooktrout is a technology innovator and we are excited that they chose TI's voice-optimised silicon for their VoP equipment to meet the requirements of carriers', said Irvind Ghai, High Density Voice Manager, TI's VoIP Business Unit.

'With our high-performance and low power programmable DSP technology, Brooktrout's TR2020 can provide high densities and a full feature suite to customers, while meeting CompactPCI and PCI form factors'.
