New single inline package (SIP) versions of the 16A SuperLynx II, 10A Austin Lynx II and 6A MicroLynx II DC/DC convertors come with 2.4-5.5 and 8.4-14V DC input voltage ranges.

New single inline package (SIP) versions of the 16A SuperLynx II, 10A Austin Lynx II and 6A MicroLynx II DC/DC convertors come with 2.4-5.5 and 8.4-14V DC input voltage ranges.

These modules feature programmable output voltages that enable designers to use a standard DC/DC convertor to implement various types of output voltage sequencing when powering multiple voltages on a board.

Based on the widely adopted, industry-leading Austin Lynx Platform, these nonisolated point of load (POL) convertors offer EZ-Sequence power sequencing and wider input ranges with pin-to-pin compatibility.

The EZ-Sequence feature supports ratiometric, voltage tracking and traditional cascading types of power sequencing.

Ratiometric and voltage tracking power sequencing allows powering devices with multiple supply voltages requirements to be met with simple circuits, thereby reducing development time.

The 2.4 to 5.5V input, 6A MicroLynx II convertor offers 94% efficiency at 3.3V full load, whereas the 10A Austin Lynx II and 16A SuperLynx II convertors achieve 95%.

These power modules can be used to convert the input voltage to a tightly regulated output voltage of 0.75-3.3V DC, programmable using an external resistor.

The 12V input MicroLynx II convertors offer 89% efficiency at 3.3V full load; the 12V input Austin Lynx II delivers 93%; and the 12V input SuperLynx II delivers 92%.

These modules can be used to convert an input voltage ranging between 8.4 and 14V to a tightly regulated output voltage of 0.75-5V DC, also programmable using an external resistor.

The open-frame construction and small footprints of these modules enables electronic designers to develop cost-effective and space-efficient solutions.

The Austin Lynx II and Austin SuperLynx II measure just 50.8 x 12.7 x 8.1mm, whereas the Austin MicroLynx II convertors are only 25.4 x 12.7 x 6.68mm.

They are also available in surface mount (SMT) packages offered in tape and reel that is suitable for automated production.

"The flexible output sequencing capability of the Austin Lynx II POL convertors creates another dimension to help engineers working with applications requiring complex powering schemes," said Sabi Varma, Vice President, Marketing and Business Operations at Tyco Electronics Power Systems.

"With this flexibility and high efficiency, the Austin Lynx II Series leads DOSA (Distributed-power Open Standards Alliance) as the first product series introduced under the alliance to ensure our customers have quality products with multiple sourcing options." A robust construction enables the modules to operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to +85C and withstand industry standard handling, cleaning and soldering processes.

Additional features include remote on/off (positive and negative logics), output voltage adjustment and protection against overcurrent, overtemperature and undervoltage.

Output ripple and noise are minimised, removing the need for additional external filtering.

Prices at quantities of 1000 pieces are $6.90 for the Austin MicroLynx II, $9.80 for the Austin Lynx II and $11.60 for Austin SuperLynx II.

Samples are orderable now.
