Software speeds 3G deployment
The TD-SCDMA Design Conformance Lab is the result of a collaborative effort between Synopsys Professional Services and the China Academy for Telecommunications Technology (CATT)
The TD-SCDMA Design Conformance Lab is the result of a collaborative effort between Synopsys Professional Services and the China Academy for Telecommunications Technology (CATT), co-inventor of the TD-SCDMA standard. The Design Conformance Lab offers a set of integrated modules that provide wireless developers with a design reference, standards conformance verification, and test management and automation.

The Design Conformance Lab significantly reduces the risks associated with misinterpreting the complex 3G protocols and helps verify compliance to industry standards throughout the development process.
Based on Synopsys' CoCentric System Studio design environment, the lab includes fully compliant receiver design and radio channel simulation models that significantly reduce the R and D effort required to develop a working chip prototype, thus conforming to the TD-SCDMA standard.
One of the five 3G standards recognised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), TD-SCDMA was invented as a joint effort between CATT (through its subsidiary Datang Telecom Technology and Industry Group) and Siemens of Germany.
TD-SCDMA appears alongside TD-CDMA in the 3G technical standards as the narrower band option of the two time-division duplex (TDD) radio transmission modes.
TD-SCDMA allows operators to build a 3G network at lower cost than other 3G technologies.

It also allows operators to utilise scarce spectrum more efficiently.
CATT and Chinese carriers like China Mobile and China Telecom established the TD-SCDMA Forum last year to promote and accelerate the standard.
The organisation currently has more than 200 member companies, including Alcatel, Motorola, Samsung, Qualcomm, Nokia, and China's ZTE Communications.
"We teamed up with Synopsys Professional Services to support development of the Lab because we believe our technical insight as inventors of the technology, combined with their many years of experience in the wireless systems design domain, would yield a product that enhances the silicon development effort", said Dr.Shi-He Li, professor and co-inventor of the standard, and chief technical officer and vice president of CATT.
"As users of the Design Conformance Lab ourselves, we can see that it significantly reduces time-to-market barriers for developing TD-SCDMA-based products in China and around the world".
"While designers focus on adding unique features to differentiate their products, they also understand that commercial success requires working silicon", said Dr Gerd Ascheid, senior director for wireless and broadband communications solutions, Synopsys Professional Services.

By leveraging the speed of CoCentric System Studio, the Design Conformance Lab enables users to quickly evaluate different design options and ensure that the product is compliant with the latest industry standards".
The Design Conformance Lab product for TD-SCDMA is immediately available at a price of $95,000 US.
