LCD factory places large test platform order
A Toshiba LCD TV factory in Wroclaw, Poland has placed a large order for Rohde and Schwarz test platforms.
Rohde and Schwarz has won a large order to supply its RandS SFU TV test platforms for Toshiba Information System's new LCD TV factory in Wroclaw, Poland.
Toshiba, which plans to begin producing LCD TVs at the factory in August 2007, will employ the test equipment for each of the new production lines.
The Polish plant will be modelled on Toshiba's Plymouth TV production facility, whose engineering department have commissioned the equipment.
Rohde and Schwarz UK's sales and applications team are currently working closely with Toshiba's Plymouth based staff to ensure that the test systems and training are delivered to Plymouth for the end of April.
There, the equipment will be configured into racks and then delivered to Poland.
The RandS SFU series, an all-in-one analogue and digital broadcast test platform, has become a popular choice for manufacturing test environments, although it is also suited to the research and development phase.
Introduced in 2004 to replace Rohde and Schwarz' RandS SFM analogue and RandS SFQ digital test transmitters, the RandS SFU is an exceptionally versatile instrument that supports all internationally important digital TV standards such as 8VSB/ATSC, J.83/B, DVB-S, DVB-T, DVB-H, and T-DMB, plus the five mobile TV standards that are used worldwide.
Nick Ward, Broadcast Product Specialist for Rohde and Schwarz UK said: "The RandS SFU is becoming a firm favourite with customers".
"With its future proof architecture, the RandS SFU is a safe investment for both RandD and production".
"We are pleased with the service from Rohde and Schwarz UK as we have a particular set of requirements and a compact schedule", saidShaun Burston, Senior Manager and Head of Engineering and Quality Assurance for Toshiba Information Systems.
He added: "We are currently seeing strong demand for LCD TVs in Europe and want to be in full production at the Polish facility within this year".
The RandS SFU is a modular platform that combines a test transmitter, a signal generator for MPEG-2 transport streams, a channel simulator, a digital noise source, an arbitrary waveform generator, and an RF modulator.
Customers such as Toshiba can benefit from multiple instrument functionality in a cabinet of only four units high.
