32bit MCUs target cost-sensitive designs
The LPC2114 and LPC2124 32bit high-performance low-cost ARM-based MCUs are ideal for a wide range of applications including motor control, servo loop control, power management and data acquisition
Key features of the devices include up to 256Kbyte of embedded Flash memory, 10bit A/D convertors, 16Kbyte of SRAM, pulsewidth modulation, timers, UARTs, serial peripheral interface (SPI) and up to 46 general-purpose I/Os in a small outline 64-pin package. With a host of new features and functionality, the new devices allow designers of embedded real-time control applications to realise cost savings without sacrificing performance.

The 32bit microcontroller market is one of the fastest growing markets with CAGR of over 20%, according to Dataquest (January 2003).
With this growth, there is a need for embedded solutions that are "standard", cost effective and efficiently supported by tools.
ARM is the most popular 32bit embedded architecture in today's market, and Philips' investment in developing a family of "big performance, small package", embedded Flash ARM-based microcontrollers underpins its strategy to provide a product portfolio that most effectively addresses customer needs.

"Philips is committed to providing our customers the broadest portfolio possible to meet their microcontroller needs", said Geoff Lees, General Manager, Microcontroller Product Line, Philips Semiconductors.
"We will continue to expand our ARM-based offerings and our 32bit solutions to provide customers with the low cost, high performance solutions needed to power their applications".
The LPC21xx family features make it ideal for real-time applications such as automotive, health care equipment, networking, Internet connectivity and battery-powered consumer products.
The latest members of the family - the LPC2114 and LPC2124 - give customers a low-cost migration path from 8 and 16bit MCUs to 32bit devices.
The LPC21xx family uses a 0.18-micron CMOS embedded Flash process enabling ultra-low 1.8V voltage operation.
The new devices operate at 60MHz (54 dhrystone MIPs) and offer the industry's highest performance embedded Flash memory in 128bit-wide zero wait-state Flash.
The LPC21xx family is supported by efficient tools and development support environments provided by a range of traditionally 8 and 32bit tool partners including ARM, Ashling, Green Hills Software, Hitex, IAR, Keil Software, Nohau and Phytec.
This range offers the market comprehensive support to enable rapid, low cost, low risk development.
The LPC2114 and LPC2124 are available now in LQFP64 packages.
The HVQFN64 in 9 x 9mm packaging will be available at the end of 2003.
