NEC Electronics Corp has expanded its K-Line range of general-purpose microcontrollers with four new package options. Today, countless applications are being miniaturised. This includes not only handheld appliances but also sensors, switches, control units and much more.

At the same time, the demand for 'intelligence' is increasing.

In response to these changing requirements, NEC Electronics has developed four new packages for the K-Line of general-purpose microcontroller devices, including tiny 16-ball WCSP and the 36-pad LGA devices that are billed as the world's smallest packaged microcontrollers.

Although small, they nonetheless feature the full speed, memory range and peripherals sets of their larger relatives.

These new packages can now be selected where previously space restrictions dictated a bare die.

Samples are available immediately, mass production will start in January 2006.
