MPC Data, together with Renesas Technology Europe, will offer a free Renesas RSK+7203 starter kit, which normally costs EUR800 (GBP695), to delegates at its forthcoming embedded Linux workshop.

The workshop, which is scheduled to take place on 23 June, accompanies the availability of the first Little Blue Linux Professional embedded Linux software development kit (SDK) for the Renesas SH7203 processor.

Delegates at the workshop will take away the Renesas RSK+7203 starter kit used on the day, together with the fully functional Linux Evaluation SDK for further study and enjoyment.

The workshop will follow a hands-on format, enabling engineers to learn the basics of embedded Linux for real industrial control applications and to realise the benefits of open-source software.

The Little Blue Linux products are designed to ease the transition from traditional RTOS environments on 8-, 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers to a full-featured and royalty-free embedded Linux operating system, but without having to endure the Linux learning curve.

The combination of a bootable, pre-configured Linux host platform and an embedded Linux target board support package (BSP) is intended to simplify cross-target Linux solution development, debugging, build and deployment, saving project time and cost.

The Renesas SH7203 microcontroller is suitable in the industrial control and automation marketplace, with key applications including motor control, connectivity and intelligent front panels on consumer white goods.

The first one-day workshop, costing GBP300 plus VAT per delegate, will be held at the Renesas headquarters in Bourne End, UK.

The offer is limited to the first 15 places.
