The i.MX applications processor is being used in the new PEG-TJ25 and PEG-TJ35 Clie handhelds from Sony Corp

"The Motorola i.MXL processor offers the best combination of performance, power consumption and overall system cost", said Masanobu Yoshida, President of Handheld Computer Company, IT and Mobile Solutions Network Company, Sony Corp. "We found that to provide a satisfying end-user experience with the battery life the user demands, the Motorola processor delivers".

Motorola's applications processors, market leaders in the handheld applications processing segment, offer developers a wide array of integrated multimedia and communications features enabling exceptionally quick development time, from prototyping to manufacturing.

Motorola's i.MXL's "Smart Speed" technology supported the Clie's designs by requiring minimum system power to drive a wide variety of high performance applications and better memory management.

"Sony continues to drive the smart handheld market with its innovative approach to design and functionality", said Franz Fink, Vice President and General Manager of Motorola's Wireless and Mobile Systems Group.

"We're excited to be a part of this new product.

We think it's going to be very well received by veteran handheld users and become a top pick for new users.

They are market winners".

Design and manufacturing techniques used in i.MX processors - with its distinctive architecture and power management - translate to less power consumption even for advanced handheld and PDA applications.

In addition, other integrated features of the i.MX processors, such as the multimedia extensions and video port, allow customers to use a low number of components in their wireless devices, to reduce overall system costs.

Motorola's i.MX family of applications processors offers designers a full platform solution.

i.MX processors feature a comprehensive suite of software including Microsoft Windows CE, Palm OS, symbian OS and Linux operating systems, and reference designs to greatly accelerate the creation of next-generation mobile communication products.

As part of Motorola's Innovative Convergence portfolio of platforms, the i.MX family is also at the heart of the i.Smart smartphone reference design - a fully integrated solution for smart handheld devices.

Engineered to allow manufacturers to develop cost-effective wireless-enabled smart handhelds with a full range of capabilities, such as digital image capture, file sharing, wireless connectivity, e-commerce using smart cards, multimedia entertainment and more - i.MX offers a low component count, long battery life, and exceptional performance for additional applications and features.
