Unlike megapixel cameras, the latest generation of low-price low-resolution digital cameras are aimed at the toy and gift market.
The IC3101 integrated CMOS sensor interface, memory interface and status LCD interface on a single chip is a dual-mode digital still camera total solution which can either be tethered to the PC or detached for mobility.
By embedding 32Kbyte programmable Flash-ROM, the digital still camera can be upgraded at any time and can be reprogrammed for different functionality.
The IC3101 dual-mode digital camera total solution supports 500,000 pixel, LCD interface and driver to manipulate up to 32 spots or icons.
The built-in 64Mbit SDRAM and 8Mbyte NAND Flash interfaces enable quality images to be stored in either SDRAM or Flash memory.
It has regular camera features and can also act as a PC camera to capture movement for video conferencing, video mail etc when it is connected to a PC via a USB port.
"The toy and digital camera market has been expanded throughout the USA and Japan where price and added-value are extremely important", said Jiin Lee, VP of Logic R and D, ICSI.
"The IC3101 is ready for volume production and is offered in LQFP 128-pin package type.
Accompanying this total solution, ICSI will also offer complete technical support to enable rapid design cycles and minimal time-to-market for customers.
For those customers who have considerable volumes, a more cost-effective version can be offered from us as well".
