The building will be constructed on the site of the former Building 2, but will provide approximately four times the floor space of the original facility.
Building 2 will have a floor space of 15,447m2 and will house 200 people for research and development, production of scintillators, spot light sources, xenon lamps and other light sources, deuterium lamps and Stealth dicing technology.
The Scintillator Product Division will occupy approximately 50 per cent of the total space and the facility will allow a three-fold increase in production.
This expansion will strengthen research and development and boost the manufacturing capacity of the Electron Tube Division, enabling it to grow its annual sales by JPY10bn.
Completion of the facility is scheduled for around January 2010, with manufacturing estimated to start in February 2010.
