A new single-chip solution for storage and playback of short audio sequences is now available from Gothic Components.

A new single-chip solution for storage and playback of short audio sequences is now available from Gothic Components.

The OKI ML2502 employs multi-level, analogue signal storage techniques to read/write up to 20 seconds of uncompressed audio from the on-chip 128Kbit-cell flash memory.

The device is available in a 30-pin plastic SSOP package and in die form.

The ML2502 LSI requires no back-up or external MCU, targeting applications such as voice messaging, message cards or interactive toys.

Built-in features include a microphone amplifier with AGC and a speaker driver to support an external dynamic or piezoelectric speaker via an external R-C network.

Supply voltage range is 2.7 to 3.3V and operating temperature is -10 to +70C.

In single-phrase mode the ML2502 uses the entire on-chip flash memory for a single message.

Dual-phrase mode partitions the memory to store two shorter messages.

At 6.4kHz sample rate, dual-phrase mode supports two messages up to 10 seconds each.

Single phrase mode allows up to 20 seconds record/playback.

A development board for the ML2502 is also available, providing a convenient and rapid design route into commercial products.

The demo board allows all features of the ML2502 device to be exercised, with a micro switch array to select dual/single phrase mode and sample frequency.

Inputs for phrase-1 and phrase-2 record and playback signals, manual speaker gain control and led monitor are provided.

The development board also includes a microphone and speaker, enabling new designs based on the ML2502 to be readily evaluated.

The ML2502 is part of a family of speech parts that includes other voice recorders and playback devices.
