Dy 4 Systems has released a LynxOS 4.0 board support package for its top-performance VME SBC, the SVME/DMV-181

Dy 4 Systems has released a LynxOS 4.0 board support package (BSP) for its top-performance VME SBC, the SVME/DMV-181. Backed by this comprehensive BSP, the LynxOS environment offers a robust, feature-rich software suite that reduces development costs for embedded VMEbus systems and features a Unix look-and-feel with Unix-compatible utilities, networking interfaces (TCP/IP, NFS), graphical user interfaces (X11, Motif) and a hierarchical file system.

The flexible scaleability offered by LynxOS makes it ideal for large, complex systems as well as small, highly integrated embedded products.

As it is extremely scaleable and configurable, it offers system integrators the ability to optimise the run-time to best suit their embedded target resource requirements.

It scales from a minimal configuration with a ROM-based application linked with the LynxOS kernel, up to a full-scale development environment consisting of a rich set of utilities native to a Unix workstation.

Based on the 500MHz PowerPC 7410 processor with AltiVec technology, the SVME/DMV-181 SBC offers powerful processing capability and an industry-leading set of I/O including six serial interfaces, dual Fast Ethernets and 16bit SCSI.

Beyond this set of interfaces, the new BSP also supports VME access, discrete I/O and real-time clock devices.

Also, the driver set provided by the BSP is backward compatible with the LynxOS 3.1 BSP for Dy 4's widely adopted SVME/DMV-179 PowerPC-based single board computer.

The LynxOS 4.0 BSP is coresident with Dy 4's powerful foundation firmware, providing LynxOS users with the means to access the debug monitor, built-in test features and Flash reprogrammer in offline mode.

Because the LynxOS 4.0 BSP for the SVME/DMV-181 SBC was developed by Dy 4 Systems and successfully tested by LynuxWorks, Dy 4 has the in-house capability to make BSP changes and additions that may be required to meet specific customer requirements.

The LynxOS 4.0 provides many important new features that are important to Dy 4's mil/aero customers, such as a 30% real-time performance increase, IPv6 networking capabilities and Linux ABI-compatibility.

The LynxOS 4.0 BSP allows customers to take advantage of these new features for projects requiring a powerful, highly integrated single board computer such as the 181.
