Concurrent Computer Corp Integrated Solutions Division and Orad Hi-Tec Systems have formed a worldwide alliance to deliver COTS-based graphics to the visual simulation market

Concurrent Computer Corp Integrated Solutions Division and Orad Hi-Tec Systems have formed a worldwide alliance to deliver (commercial-off-the-shelf) COTS-based graphics to the visual simulation market. Orad's VR-X graphics processing subsystem will be a key component to Concurrent's recently announced ImaGen visual servers, a Linux-based, high-performance, multi-channel image generation system for simulation and training applications.

Orad VR-X compositor hardware subsystem links together any number of ImaGen image generation servers to produce a single unified output image to any desired level of photorealism.

For example, the power of individual ImaGen servers can be assigned to render specific subsets of an image in parallel.

Subset images are automatically assembled by Orad VR-X to produce a total image in unprecedented aggregate speeds of up to 1.3 billion polygons and 21 billion pixels per second.

Unlimited hardware genlock and swaplock in multichannel configurations contribute to best-in-class graphics performance.

ImaGen with VR-X enables customers to upgrade latest technology graphics boards easily while protecting their investment of previously purchased boards.

ImaGen with VR-X supports MultiGen Paradigms' Vega Prime and other popular visualisation graphics toolkits to rapidly develop and deploy accurate, real-time 3D software applications.

With universal graphics card support, including Nvidia and ATI, ImaGen customers running VR-X will be able to leverage the latest performance available in the COTS market.

Additional software features include pixel and vertex shaders provided by the latest graphics library extensions.

Ken Jackson, Concurrent vice president of Business Development said: "Concurrent's ImaGen graphics server with VR-X is an excellent option for customers because they can start small and add more graphics capacity as their business grows.

Our partnership with Orad, a widely recognised COTS scalable graphics simulation leader, will help us ensure that businesses of all sizes can reap the benefits of 3D graphics capacity on demand and cost-effectively respond to simulation requirements worldwide".

Stu Taylor, vice president VIS-SIM USA Sales of Orad, said: "Orad is partnering with Concurrent - a leader in mission-critical, real-time solutions - to extend its market reach globally.

By combining Concurrent's real-time expertise and global presence, Orad will enhance its capability to sell and to provide better support and service to meet the needs of users around the world".
