Acal Semiconductors has signed a franchise agreement to sell Microchip Technology's complete range of microcontroller and analogue semiconductors in the UK and Ireland

The agreement is the third major new franchise for Acal Semiconductors which has also signed GSI Technology and Linear Technology in the last six months. Microchip is a leading provider of microcontrollers and analogue semiconductors with 8 and 16bit PIC microcontrollers and 16bit dsPIC digital signal controllers (DSCs) as well as over 350 analogue and interface products and a broad range of EEPROM, Keeloq authentication and RF devices.

Ken Millar, Microchip's Senior Channel Manager for Northern Europe, explained: 'The launch of the latest high-end 16bit PICmicro microcontrollers and dsPIC DSCs, and the continual development of new applications for 8bit microcontrollers, means that Acal Semiconductors' design-led approach and exceptional technical support will be of considerable benefit in helping customers to achieve a fast time to market for highly differentiated, function-rich products'.

Steve Carr, Director of Acal Technology added: 'The agreement with Microchip adds the 16bit architecture, and a significantly wider range of 8bit parts, to Acal Semiconductors' microcontroller product range'.

'This allows Acal to support customers across the full spectrum of microcontroller architectures from 4bit through to 32bit and to find the best fit for all applications, from low-cost, low-end products right through to leading-edge, high-end products'.
