ZigBee transceiver is
matched with Renesas MCU
ZMD is working with Renesas Technology America to offer sub1-GHz ZigBee wireless sensor networking solutions
The ZigBee networking solution will combine the ZMD44102, which is currently the only commercially available sub1-GHz transceiver for ZigBee, and Renesas' highly integrated M16C microcontroller with full-scale ZigBee software support. The ZMD44102 is based on the IEEE802.15.4 standard and operates in the 868MHz and 915MHz bands.

RF transceiver boosts in-building performance
Available now from ZMD is the company's second-generation ZMD44102 RF transceiver integrated circuit and starter kits
It features superior range performance of over 250 meters at 0dBm output power and a highly integrated hardware MAC for automatic protocol management.
The Renesas M16C microcontroller is designed to minimise electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS) problems, which is an important consideration for RF design engineers.
It also offers scalable on-chip memory resources, a rich mix of peripherals and complete in-house software support to enable ZigBee applications, including ZigBee software stacks and drivers.
To provide a one-stop solution, the two companies are also offering design resources including RF reference design, ZigBee networking software, development kits, and sensor ICs.
The ZigBee networking solution will be available in the second quarter of this year.
'We are seeing a growing demand for sub1-GHz ZigBee solutions especially in automated meter reading (AMR) systems, industrial applications and any other systems that require long-range wireless technology', said Tim Dry, Senior Marketing Manager, Advanced Solutions Group, Renesas Technology America.
'The addition of ZMD's 900MHz RF transceiver into our M16C series ZigBee solutions will enable us to effectively reach out to this market'.
'As the market leaders, Renesas in microcontrollers, and ZMD in sub1-GHz transceivers for ZigBee, this co-operation gives customers all of the technologies needed to enter the ZigBee marketplace quickly and efficiently', added Kory Brown, VP of ZMD's Wireless Division.
