ARM9-based micromodules run real-time
Linux
Reckoned to be the smallest embedded modules in their class, the Eddy V2.x Series from SystemBase combine ARM9 processors with a choice of networking hardware.
Available now from Trenz Electronic, the SystemBase Eddy V2.x Series comprises a family of ARM9-based networked micromodules equipped with Lemonix real-time Linux With footprints of just 25.0 x 42.0mm, these are reckoned to be the smallest embedded modules in their class

Convertors simplify serial interfacing
A new series of interface convertors connects RS422/485 devices to standard PC interfaces, such as RS232, USB and Ethernet.
It features 32Mbyte of SDRAM, 4Mbyte of Flash, two UARTs, Ethernet connectivity (external magnetics required), 16bit address and 8bit databus interfaces to connect to external devices, and 16 programmable GPIO pins.
Several other modules based on the Eddy-CPU are available to connect RS232, RS422 and RS485 devices to a network.
Compact Eddy serial to Ethernet modules can be easily integrated on an existing hardware design, supporting two RS232/RS422/RS485 serial interfaces with up to 921.6Kbit/s.
OEMs and developers can add network connectivity to their hardware designs with these high-performance modules in a fraction of the time, with minimum effort.
A power over Ethernet (PoE) option is also available.
Eddy serial to Wi-Fi modules provide developers and OEMs a flexible yet simple way to add wireless network connectivity (802.11b/g) to their serial RS232/RS422/RS485 devices with robust security.
The Eddy serial to memory module is the ideal choice for applications with large memory storage requirements.
It is equipped with a SDCard/SDIO and a USB host port, allowing the user to select the preferred storage medium and capacity.
Data gathered and accumulated from serial RS232/RS422/RS485 devices can be saved to be sent over via Ethernet.
It can also serve as an ideal backup storage solution in case of Ethernet communication failure.
Lemonix is an embedded real-time operating system built on Linux kernel 2.6.x.
The standard Linux kernel 2.6.x has been revised to support real-time capabilities while retaining its stable traits and merits.
A real-time scheduler, pre-emptive kernel and lock-break methods have been implemented on Lemonix to guarantee a maximum response latency of less than 37us enabling a stable and reliable means of real-time communication.
LemonIDE is an integrated development environment (IDE) for Eddy modules.
Built on open source Eclipse framework, LemonIDE provides an easy and effective GUI (graphical user interface) for application and firmware developments that run on Lemonix.
The Eddy-CPU V2.x is available now priced at around US $49 in quantities of 2000 units.
The Eddy modules and corresponding evaluation kits are available in multiple configurations for various requirements with all needed software.
