Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced that the first shipments of the 65GByte SDXC memory card to the retail channel will begin in May 2010 in Europe.

The SDXC (extra capacity) product is said to be ideal for use with Net PCs and offers high-speed read and write rates of up to 60Mbytes/sec and 35Mbytes/sec respectively.

Toshiba's 65GByte SDXC card provides portable memory for applications where the rapid transfer of high data volumes is critical.

These include high-speed continuous shooting with digital still cameras and high-resolution video recording with digital camcorders.

Using the card users could, for example, download 2.4GBytes of video data in as little as 70sec.

The SDXC card is compliant with UHS104, the ultra-high-speed interface capable of handling data rates as high as 104Mbytes/sec.

The SDXC card is supplied in environmentally friendly paperboard packaging, which reduces plastic content by up to 60 per cent when compared with conventional blister packs.

In addition, the paperboard-based packages are also slimmer and lighter than the more traditional pack, helping to deliver efficiency and cost savings in terms of storage and shipping.
