Legend puts TI
solutions into real world
China's leading PC and Internet appliances manufacturer Legend Holdings has selected Texas Instruments wireless GSM/GPRS chipset technology to power its new Legend wireless handset
China's leading PC and Internet appliances manufacturer Legend Holdings has selected Texas Instruments wireless GSM/GPRS chipset technology to power its new Legend wireless handset, and TI's OMAP application processors to power a set of its next-generation handheld Internet devices. By working with TI, the market leader in wireless technology, Legend executes on its plans of moving into the wireless communications arena.

Legend also announced today it has entered an agreement with Xoceco, one of China's leading wireless handset manufacturers, to form a new joint venture to develop handsets, also based on TI's wireless chipset solutions.
Initially, Legend will develop its GSM/GPRS handsets and wireless PDAs based on TI's OMAP processors and TCS chipset solutions.
TI and Legend will also explore opportunities for design and development of short distance wireless, wireless LAN and other telecomms products.

'With TI's family of high-performance and power efficient OMAP processors and wireless modem technology, Legend will be able to quickly deliver a set of next-generation devices that take the user experience to new levels'.
In 1999, TI established an advanced digital signal processing (DSP) technology laboratory at Legend.
The lab will continue to play a key role to accelerate the development of wireless solutions.
In addition to Legend's selection of TI's TCS GSM/GPRS chipsets and OMAP processors, TI will continue to offer Legend its complete portfolio of silicon and software products, which also include radio frequency, analog baseband technology, power management, audio codecs, mixed signal devices and wireless LAN and Bluetooth technology.
Legend will leverage TI's strong wireless systems expertise and experience to support development and manufacturing.
Legend GSM/GPRS handsets that incorporate TI's wireless technology are expected to be introduced before end of 2002.
